Program Timeline

Wed Oct 1, 2014: The request for applications opens. If you have questions about the application, you can contact the staff.

Sat Nov 1, 2014: Application deadline. Your application must be received by midnight on November 1, 2014. Letters of recommendation must also be submitted by this time.

Sat Dec 20, 2014: Fellowship winners announced.

Tue Jan 19, 2015: First day of Spring semester. The required course for MH-GH fellows begins this week. All fellows are required to enroll in the course.

February 2015: Lab orientations for MH-GH fellows will begin at the start of the semester. You will be expected to meet regularly with your UC Berkeley mentor and spend 8-10 hours per week working in the lab. If you need funding to support your lab work, you will need to arrange this independently. The MH-GH Fellowship does not provide Spring semester research stipends.

March 2015: A pre-travel orientation will be conducted for all fellows.

May 2015: End of the Spring semester. By this time, you should have arranged your travel and visa, obtained necessary vaccinations and clearances, and prepared for your research project abroad.

May/June 2015: The international research experience begins. You will receive a stipend, research supply budget, and housing allowance through the fellowship program.

Aug 2015: The international research experience concludes, and fellows return to UC Berkeley in time for the start of the Fall semester.

Aug, 2015: Fellows' follow-up reports are due. Detailed instructions for the report will be provided. Fellows will also be encouraged to submit their work to a national conference (for oral or poster presentation). Travel funds are available for those students whose submissions are accepted for presentation.

Oct, 2015: The UC Berkeley Global Health Research symposium will be held in October, in coordination with the Center for Global Public Health. All fellows will be required to make an oral presentation at the symposium.
