The University of Pretoria, a one hundred year-old institution, is the leading research university in South Africa. The Mammal Research Institute, housed within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, conducts biological and ecological research related to indigenous African mammals, including biodiversity conservation, reproductive biology, biometrics, and ecosystems science. The Institute includes a focus on the spread of zoonotic diseases at the human-animal interface, including studies of emerging infections like bovine TB and anthrax.
