The Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda is a recently renovated facility providing laboratory and clinical research facilities affiliated with Makerere University, the Uganda National Heath Research Organization, Mbarara University, and other local institutions. The Hospital benefits from partnerships with Case Western Reserve University, Johns Hopkins University, UC San Francisco, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and other leading research institutions abroad. These collaborations have resulted in considerable infrastructure for biomedical and public health research, including core research laboratories, computer clusters for enhanced data storage and information management, and multiple million-dollar research awards for studies of preventive and therapeutic interventions for HIV, TB, malaria, and opportunistic infections. Affiliated with the Hospital Complex, and managed by the Uganda National Health Research Organisation, are the Uganda Virus Research Institute and the Joint Clinical Research Centre.
