CEND recognizes the importance of training researchers to participate in an increasingly globalized scientific community. From academic courses and fellowships, to innovative contests and international exchanges, UC Berkeley students have a wealth of opportunities to participate in global infectious disease research.

Our programs also help students develop an understanding of the roles that academia, industry, and the public sector play in the prevention and treatment of neglected diseases. We sponsor frequent seminars and guest lectures, including a series on industry and global health, to connect our research community with world experts. In addition, we offer competitive funding for student travel to and from developing countries, for comprehensive training in the biological, environmental, social, and economic factors that contribute to infectious disease transmission.
