Industry Alliances: Translating Research into Health Impact

CEND researchers recognize that basic discovery—without translation into new products, practices, and policies—is of limited use to the billions of people living in poverty. This is not only because traditional market-based research and development have neglected poor people's needs, but also because resource-limited countries often lack the scientific and industrial capacity to transform research into affordable, locally responsive goods.

In response to some of these unmet needs, CEND is helping to build campus-based infrastructure for translating scientific discovery into non-profit, affordable products for people in developing countries. This includes "socially responsible" licensing of intellectual property, as well as strategic alliances with non-profit product development firms, philanthropic organizations, and biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

We have also engaged a talented group of advisors, comprised of industry leaders and venture capitalists, to help connect our researchers with promising development partners.
