The Henry Wheeler Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases seeks to accelerate the development of new low-cost drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics for infectious diseases that primarily or disproportionately afflict people in developing countries. As a project of the University of California, Berkeley, the Center brings unparalleled resources for cutting-edge research to global health challenges that have been largely neglected by markets.

bagh launchThe Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases is the life sciences and science policy arm of the Berkeley Alliance for Global Health, a new university initiative translating campus research into global health impact. Together with the Center for Global Public Health (CGPH)—the public health and health policy component—the Alliance for Global Health brings together more than 80 faculty members from 12 schools and colleges. The initiative represents an innovative "discovery to delivery" platform for cross-disciplinary research.

Both Centers were officially launched on May 14, 2008 with an exciting program of speakers, panelists, and discussions.
